Brian and his best friend Dan Hansen. Dan passed away in March 2005. Dan was a fighter and will be missed.
Brian was born in Sacramento California. At the age of 6 months, he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Brian received a mainstreamed education attending elementary, middle, and high school needing few, if any, supports. His parents and teachers taught him to be as independent as possible. He attended the University of Alabama, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Special Education in December 1995. After a few years teaching in the classroom, Brian had an opportunity to attend and work at Auburn University. He received a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in August 2003. Brian is currently working as a Peer Advocate for the Independent Living Resources of Greater Birmingham. He is one of the leaders of the Alabama Young Adults in Transition (YAIT) and helped start a social networking site for young adults with disabilities. Brian is a strong advocate of Self-Awareness, Self-Determination, and Disability Awareness.
